Garth Grove, North Harford

STATS -- Grove plays center and defensive tackle for North Harford. He led the team with 12 tackles in a rain-drenched 10-0 win over C. Milton Wright two weeks ago. Grove also is one of team's four captains.

SIDELINES -- The 5-foot-11, 205-pound senior has brains, speed and athleticism. He starts the line's blocking calls and is a big reason the Hawks have run so well during a 5-1 start. Grove also plays basketball and runs in the 400 relay. He's been timed at 4.6 in the 40-yard dash. In addition, he's ranked first in his class.

Liz Meyers, Bel Air

STATS -- The senior outside hitter has played a major role in the team's success this season, helping the Bobcats to a 10-1 start. She's gotten 25 aces, 47 kills, 130 hits and 313 good passes along with seven blocks. Meyers is one of several seniors who've sparked Bel Air this year.

SIDELINES -- Meyers is a strong all-around player in her second year on the varsity. She's a team captain and the kind of leader who, according to coach Chris McDonough, "pulls the team together whenever they're struggling."
