Jazz concert at Glenelg High

Jazz legend Maynard Ferguson will perform at Glenelg High School at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15. The school's award-winning Glenelg Jazz Ensemble will open.

The Glenelg Marching Unit is holding its Citrus Fruit Sale through March. Pink grapefruit, navel oranges and tangerines, and a variety pack will be offered.

Fire Department open house for kids

The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Open House from noon to 3 p.m. today at the Clarksville firehouse.

Rides will be offered on the fire truck, and a kids' safety house, a helicopter, snacks and take-home prizes will be available for children.

Birdseed sale -- The Audubon Society of Central Maryland is selling birdseed for backyard feeders this month. Proceeds will support the chapter's wildlife sanctuaries. Order forms are available at local libraries and at centralmdaudubon.org to be mailed. Seed can be picked up Oct. 29 at Clarksville Elementary School or Nov. 5 at Prospect United Methodist Church, on Old Annapolis Road northwest of Mount Airy. Children's programs -- Children's programs this month at the Glenwood library include "Pirates Ahoy!" at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow for age 5 and older, with pirate songs, stories and a craft. Registration is required. "Fall into Science," a program for ages 3 to 6 of simple science concepts and experiments inspired by children's literature, will be offered at 11 a.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. Registration begins Friday. "Halloween Craft Days," a 20- to 30-minute program for young children, will be offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. The program, which includes crafts, is for families. Children younger than 2 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not necessary. 410-313-5579.

Basket bingo -- Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company Inc. will sponsor basket bingo at 7 p.m. Friday at the fire hall, 1330 Woodbine Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $15 in advance (including one free game), or $18 at the door. Each ticket includes 20 games and door prizes. Specials and raffles are also planned. Winners receive Longaberger baskets, pottery or wrought-iron items filled with prizes. Those who attend are encouraged to patronize the kitchen.
