UM scholarship goes to Key alumna

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland, College Park recently presented the first Thomas A. Fretz Scholarship to Amanda Dell of Westminster.

Dell, 21, the president of the agricultural student council at College of Agriculture, has been a key player in the college's biggest annual event, Ag Day, since she entered the college in 2002. She is a graduate of Francis Scott Key High School.

Organizing the event requires a year's worth of planning. Under Dell's leadership, ad sales increased significantly.

Dell earned a 4.0 grade point average last spring and manages a full course load each semester.

Carroll students win fair scholarships

Three Carroll County youths received $2,000 Maryland State Fair scholarships this year. Recipients were Blair Mersinger, Matthew Baile and Ryan M. Haines.

Youths must have been high school graduates entering their first year of college.
