Twenty windows took center stage at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel for the 7th annual Habitat Harvest gala. Each window, salvaged from vacant, rundown Baltimore houses being renovated by Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity, was reworked into a piece of art by a Maryland artist. Now it was being auctioned off to raise money for Habitat.

"Two nonprofit organizations partnering for one great cause," commented Pamela Wilson, executive director of the Maryland Federation of Art, which oversaw the project.

"This is amazing!" guest Angela Jennings cooed to hubby Tony, as the two examined a series of glass panes decorated with intricate cut paper designs.

"I want to hang this in my bathroom. It's so cheeky and cheerful," said Lauren Novak, as she wrote in her bid for a window that featured a pink otter splashing in a green bathtub. Meanwhile, Jonathan Burbank furtively leafed through a notebook that was part of a paper collage adorning another frame.

The night's auction helped raise about $90,000 for Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity, all of which will be used locally.
