Smith, Sr., Morgan Gregory

On Thursday, October 13, 2005, MORGAN GREGORY SMITH, SR., 88, of Staatsburg, NY, died at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. A Staatsburg resident since 1996, he previously lived in Bradshaw, MD. An engineer, Mr. Smith worked for the US Department of Defense at Aberdeen, MD prior to his retirement. After retiring, he continued his work as a consultant for a number of years. A veteran of the US Navy, he served during World War II. Born January 26, 1917, in Catskill, NY, he was the son of the late Morgan Gray Smith and Elsie (Gregory) Smith. He received his engineering degree from the University of New Mexico. On December 20, 1942, in Round Top, NY, he married Elizabeth Seers. Mrs. Smith predeceased him on October 21, 1997. He is survived by one son: M. Greg Smith of Staatsburg, NY, a daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and Charles Mitchell of Gilmanton, NH; and two grandchildren: Curtis and Megan Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Cremation will be at Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston. There will be no calling hours.
