SPORT SOCCER

Sam Young, Severna Park

STATS -- Young, a junior, scored 36 goals and had 20 assists as a forward in her first two seasons on varsity. She was moved to midfield this year and has six goals and three assists for the No. 3 Falcons (8-0-2). She had 13 goals and 11 assists for Severna Park's Class 3A state championship team in 2003.

SIDELINES -- Young, a second-team All-Metro pick last year and a two-time All-County selection, agreed to move to center midfield to help the team. "Sam is very unselfish and was asked to take a new role at midfield, which meant her scoring numbers would take a hit, and she willingly did it," said coach Gary Lam. "We recently moved her back up top." Young, a team captain, has a 3.5 grade point average.
