TODAY

Annapolis city council -- The council will hold a work session at 6 p.m. and its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 160 Duke of Gloucester St. At the work session, the council will discuss the future of Market House. At the regular session, the council will take up building-height restrictions for the inner West Street corridor. 410-263-7997.

TOMORROW

Carroll County commissioners -- The commissioners will meet for an open discussion at 9:30 a.m. in Room 300 of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster. Topics for the 10 a.m. session include the temporary storage of sewage sludge, exempting gun clubs from the amusement tax, and bid approvals. A 2 p.m. meeting will focus on a Brandenburg Circle update. 410-386-2043.

WEDNESDAY

Living history lecture -- The Historic Annapolis Foundation will present Annapolis resident and art history professor emeritus Mathew Herban in a lecture on Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) at noon. The talk focuses on Peale's proprietorship of a saddlery, membership in the Sons of Liberty and formation of the western hemisphere's first professional museum of natural history. THURSDAY

Fall Apple Festival -- The Women's Civic League will host the Fall Apple Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shot Tower Park, President and Fayette streets. The event will feature homemade apple desserts and other snacks, a historical re-enactment, a silent auction and tours. Admission is free. 410-837-5424.

FRIDAY

Market opening -- Cross Street Market will host a grand reopening Friday and Saturday to celebrate the completion of its renovations. Mayor Martin O'Malley and other local officials will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Friday. Live musicians are scheduled to perform from noon to 2 p.m. both days. SATURDAY

Ellicott City Fall Arts Festival -- The festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Main Street in Ellicott City. Music, dance, painting, sculpture and photography will be exhibited. There will be refreshments and children's activities. Information: 410-465-9700.

SUNDAY

CROP walk -- The 25th annual Severna Park CROP Walk will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail, starting and ending at the Community Center, 63 B&A Blvd. Registration will begin at 12:15 p.m. for the 10K event. Walkers need to solicit sponsors to raise money for relief abroad through Church World Service. The Severna Park Assistance Network will receive 25 percent of the funds raised. 410-757-2492.
