The Wilde Lake Community Association will present its annual Halloween event at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Slayton House in the Wilde Lake Village Center. An interactive show for children ages 2 to 7, "Pumpkin Party with Candy and Cupcake," will be presented.
Trick-or-treating in the village center is planned for the children after the show. Children are invited to attend in costume.

Rainbow Theatre to present comedian
Rainbow Theatre in the Wilde Lake Village Center will continue its season of performances for children and families with an appearance by Geist Visual Comedian on Oct. 21. Two 45-minute performances are scheduled, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The cost is $4.50 in advance and $5.50 at the door. Group rates are available.
New program for local musicians
Town Center Community Association is presenting "Oakland Nights," a new program featuring local musicians in an informal coffeehouse atmosphere, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. one Friday a month in the ballroom of Historic Oakland.
Don Chapman will perform from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 28. Chapman plays the guitar and sings a wide range of songs.

Help with wills to be offered
Attorney Steven Elville will be at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, for the 60 Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19.
He can draw up simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to Howard County residents ages 60 and older.
The cost is on a sliding scale. An appointment is required. The program, which is available on the third Wednesday of each month, is sponsored by the Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging.

Possibilities -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a "Possibility" program for those age 55 and older from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mondays, starting Oct. 17, at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. The workshop is based on the book The Art of Possibility, by Rosamund and Benjamin Zander, and is focused on improving life by shifting one's perspective. Neighbor to neighbor -- Volunteers from the Community Emergency Response Network (CERN) will present "Neighbor to Neighbor" workshops at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. The workshops, which are designed to encourage communication within families and neighborhoods before a disaster occurs, are being held in conjunction with Howard County's Community Readiness Week activities. Those who participate will learn how to shelter in place without assistance from local government or emergency personnel, and how to prepare for a local or regional disaster or emergency. Volunteers -- Howard County Office on Aging is recruiting volunteers to help with the 50+ Expo, to be held Oct. 21 at Wilde Lake High School. Volunteers are needed to check in exhibitors, greet visitors, help with Cafe 50+, the health fair, flu shots, workshops, setting up and cleaning up and other activities.
