Health and safety expo is Saturday

The Knights of Columbus Council 76 of Eldersburg will offer its second annual Family Safety and Learning Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the parking lot of the Eldersburg Wal-Mart on Liberty Road at Route 32.

The event brings together civic, business and community organizations, government agencies, law enforcement and emergency services agencies with information on safety and health for all ages. Last year's event attracted 1,200 youths and their families. This year, organizers expect to double attendance.

Activities, demonstrations and information will be available. Topics include family protection, child safety seat instruction, fire prevention, helicopter orientation, fire extinguisher use, calling 911, new Social Security benefits, search and rescue, child DNA identification, and hot air balloon orientation.

Health information will be available on cancer awareness and detection, how to be a friend to a person with a disability, drug recognition, substance abuse intervention, and safety issues for seniors.

Information on gun, water, bike, exercise, poison, cookout, home, work, forest, computer, telephone, severe weather, and holiday safety will be available.

Demonstrations will be held on canine obedience and drug detection, seat belt safety, fire emergency rescue, interactive juggling, and golf putting.

The event will also have storytelling, costumed characters and information on youth sports.
