Anti-abortion hour of prayer is today

The 14th annual Carroll County Life Chain Hour of Prayer will be held in three locations today, rain or shine, as part of National Respect Life Sunday.

For an hour, participants will publicly pray for an end to decriminalized abortion.

Participants will hold signs saying "Abortion Kills Children" and "Jesus Heals and Forgives." No graphic pictures of aborted babies are permitted.

Chains will be held at: Route 140 at Sullivan and Wimert roads, Westminster, at 3:30 p.m., 410-876-7984; Baltimore and York streets, Taneytown, at 2:30 p.m., 410-751-1712; 351 Liberty Road, in front of South Carroll Church of the Nazarene, near Eldersburg, at 2 p.m., 410-795-0178.

Commissioners set community meeting

The Carroll County Commissioners will hold a community meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Company, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road.

All citizens are welcome to discuss any topic in an informal setting.

Officials will present legislative wish list

The Carroll County commissioners will present their proposals to the county delegation for the 2006 legislative session at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in Room 003 of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

The 2006 proposals include: a request from the senior centers for a change in gambling laws; the annual local-bond bill; a request from the county sheriff for a raise; and a request from Carroll Area Transit System and the Humane Society for a change in the Local Government Tort Claims Act.

The meeting is open to the public.
