Road closures during Race for the Cure

Organizers are expecting more than 20,000 people to participate in today's Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 13th annual Race for the Cure.

The city's Department of Transportation is warning motorists to avoid many downtown and South Baltimore streets.

From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., the following streets will be closed: Light Street and Pratt Street Conway Street from Howard to Light Street Key Highway from Light to McComas Street Lawrence Street from Fort Avenue to Key Highway Fort Avenue from Lawrence to South Charles Street Charles Street from Fort Avenue to Hamburg Street Hamburg Street from Charles to Russell Street Lee Street from Light to Henrietta Street Henrietta Street from Lee to Hanover Street.

Also, northbound Interstate 395 will be closed. Drivers entering the city will have to detour onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and turn onto Pratt Street to reach downtown.

The 5-kilometer race features a new route through Federal Hill. The run begins at North Charles and Conway streets at 8 a.m., followed by a 5K walk at 8:30 a.m. and a 1-mile family fun walk at 9 a.m.
