Devil Rays update Tampa Bay has had a strong second half, going 39-31 since the All-Star break, including a 6-0 loss in last night's series finale in Cleveland. The Devil Rays have the fifth-best record in the American League since the break and are enjoying their second best stretch of 65-plus games in club history. They also are already assured of their first winning half in club history. The Orioles lead the season series 9-6. Tampa Bay 23-year-old infielder Jorge Cantu has set a club record for RBIs in a season (115) and is attempting to become just the fifth player all-time to reach 40 doubles (he got his 40th last night), 30 home runs (he is two shy) and 115 RBIs in a season before the age of 24. ... Outfielder Carl Crawford, who has been slowed by injuries and might be limited this weekend, needs six hits to become the first Devil Ray to reach 200 in a season. Crawford and shortstop Julio Lugo last night became the ninth set of teammates since 1900 and the fourth since 1925 to have at least 180 hits and 35 steals in one season. The last duo to do it was Cleveland's Roberto Alomar and Omar Vizquel in 1999.
