Glenn P. Graham's fantasy picks

The Kickoff

September 29, 2005|By GLENN P. GRAHAM

Play of the week

WR Randy Moss, Oakland vs. Dallas -- Redskins WR Santana Moss got behind the Cowboys' secondary twice for long touchdowns two weeks ago and then San Francisco's Brandon Lloyd had his way last week. Imagine what Randy Moss might do, especially after being kept scoreless last week in Philadelphia.

Position analysis

Starting nod -- Carson Palmer, Cincinnati vs. Houston. Even the Texans' extra week to prepare won't stop Palmer, who has eight touchdown passes and two interceptions in the Bengals' 3-0 start.

Other solid options -- Kerry Collins, Oakland vs. Dallas; Eli Manning, New York Giants vs. St. Louis; Jake Delhomme, Carolina vs. Green Bay.

Take a seat -- Aaron Brooks, New Orleans vs. Buffalo at San Antonio; Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle at Washington; Drew Brees, San Diego at New England.

Running backs

Starting nod -- Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia vs. Kansas City. With QB Donovan McNabb hurting, the Eagles will continue to lean on their multi-dimensional running back.

Other solid options -- Jamal Lewis, Ravens vs. New York Jets; T.J. Duckett, Atlanta vs. Minnesota; Kevan Barlow, San Francisco vs. Arizona at Mexico City.

Take a seat -- Kevin Jones, Detroit at Tampa Bay; Domanick Davis, Houston at Cincinnati; Fred Taylor, Jacksonville vs. Denver.

Wide receivers

Starting nod -- Torry Holt, St. Louis at New York Giants. Whether the Rams are ahead or behind in New York, they will always look in Holt's direction.

Other solid options -- Anquan Boldin, Arizona vs. San Francisco at Mexico City; Deion Branch, New England vs. San Diego; Steve Smith, Carolina vs. Green Bay.

Take a seat -- Donald Driver, Green Bay at Carolina; Darrell Jackson, Seattle at Washington; Santana Moss, Washington vs. Seattle.

Tight ends

Starting nod -- Alge Crumpler, Atlanta vs. Minnesota. With the Falcons running the ball as effectively as they are, you can expect a couple of big plays and likely more from Crumpler against a Minnesota defense that ranks 25th against the pass.

Other solid options -- Courtney Anderson, Oakland vs. Dallas; Jeremy Shockey, New York Giants vs. St. Louis; Ben Troupe, Tennessee vs. Indianapolis.

Take a seat -- Marcus Pollard, Detroit at Tampa Bay; Jeb Putzier, Denver at Jacksonville; Jermaine Wiggins, Minnesota at Atlanta.

Starting nod -- Neil Rackers, Arizona vs. San Francisco at Mexico City. The league's highest-scoring kicker with 31 points is 10-for-10 on field goals and should keep his leg busy against the 49ers.

Starting nod -- Ravens vs. New York Jets. Rested and angry after a bye week, the winless Ravens will make life miserable for Jets third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger in his first career start and he won't get much help from running back Curtis Martin, who is finally showing his age.
