Tour of hope -- Lance Armstrong (foreground) will lead a 50-mile fundraising ride, starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 8, from Howard Community College in Columbia to Glen Echo Park in Montgomery County and then to the Ellipse in Washington. Activities are to begin at the college about 6:15 a.m.; Armstrong will speak about 6:50 a.m. He will be joined by about 1,500 riders on the 50-mile trip to Washington. The fundraiser for cancer research is part of the 2005 Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope, a nine-day, 3,300-mile cycling trip by a team of 24 riders, led by Armstrong, that is to finish at the Ellipse, at Constitution Avenue and 17th Street, about noon. Activities for visitors are planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ellipse; finale ceremonies are to begin at 11 a.m.; Armstrong and others will speak.
