TAKEOUT

Goldberg's Kosher New York Bagels

708-710 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville

410-415-7001

HOURS // 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday

Now this is New York-style. Frighteningly thick, Goldberg's garlic bagel, 70 cents, is almost cloudlike. You could buy a bunch, pile them up and use them as a pillow if the seasoning wasn't so sticky. Though the bagel is coated in minced garlic and onion, the flavor is well-dispersed throughout and thankfully not too sharp.

GREG'S BAGELS

519 E. Belvedere Ave.,

Belvedere Square

410-323-9463

HOURS // 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday Heavy and hearty, the Colossus, 80 cents, could be a meal in itself. Though the bagel is browned and oddly shaped (Greg's hand-rolls its bagels), the taste more than makes up for it. Poppy and sesame seeds pressed down into the dough mingle with caraway, fennel, cumin and shallots to blissfully attack your tongue.

HOURS // 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday; 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday Bagel Bin's poppy seed bagel, 65 cents, is picture-perfect, but denser than all the other bagels sampled. Bathed in seeds, it's a little on the dry side but still savory.
