Yankees update
The New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-4, yesterday to keep pace with the Boston Red Sox for first place in the American League East. After getting swept in four games at Yankee Stadium last week, the Orioles fell to 6-8 against the Yankees this season, but they are 4-1 against them at Camden Yards. The Yankees have hit 218 home runs, becoming the first team in major league history to hit 200 or more in six consecutive seasons. Third baseman and American League Most Valuable Player candidate Alex Rodriguez needs one home run to break the franchise record for most homers by a right-handed batter, which he tied Saturday by hitting his 46th. Rookie second baseman Robinson Cano is on a 35-for-88 streak. In three games against the Orioles this season, Johnson, tonight's starter, is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He is 2-3 with a 4.47 ERA in seven career games at Camden Yards.
