CENTRAL

Marching band show is Saturday

The Westminster High School Owl Marching Band will host the U.S. Scholastic Band Association Marching Band Show on Saturday at the school's stadium, 1225 Washington Road.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.

Refreshments will be available.

Admission is $5 for the general public and $3 for senior citizens and students at the gate.

Cedarhurst Unitarian will celebrate 20 years

Cedarhurst Unitarian Universalist Church will hold a 20th-anniver- sary celebration Saturday and next Sunday at the church, 2912 Club House Road, Finksburg.

A homecoming gala will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday with homemade comfort foods, musical entertainment and activities for all ages.

A Service of Celebration will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with special guests.

A picnic lunch and games and activities for the family will be held after worship.

The congregation was founded in 1985 by 25 members in Reisterstown as the Unitarian Universalists of Northwest Baltimore, but moved to Finksburg in 1994.

The first full-time pastor, the Rev. Henry Simoni-Wastila, was hired in 2001.

The church holds worship and religious education classes at 10:30 a.m. Sundays and welcomes all philosophies and creeds.

Church professionals, pastors will meet

The Westminster Ministerium will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Church of the Brethren, Bond Street and Park Place.

Lutheran Village group to hold fashion show

The Friends of Carroll Lutheran Village will hold its "Timeless Elegance" fall fashion show and luncheon at 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at Martin's Westminster.

Belk of TownMall of Westminster will provide styles and accessories from casual to party by models from the community as well as Carroll Lutheran Village residents and staff.

The cost for luncheon and the show is $30. Reservations are required.

Daddy/Daughter Date planned for Oct. 12

The Westminster Recreation Department will hold a Daddy/Daughter Date from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Martin's Westminster.

Girls must be in grades kindergarten to eighth.

Tickets are $47.50 per couple and includes dinner, dancing, contests, a 5-by-7 photograph, door prizes and gifts.

Dancing for teens , talk on books scheduled

Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

"Dance the Night Away with DDR" for teens at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Teens can dance to the tunes of the group DDR.

Book Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 to discuss The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth Speare.

Ceremony to open senior apartments

Interfaith Housing Alliance Inc. will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Residences at the Hampstead School senior living facility at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The old elementary school at 1211 N. Main St. has been renovated into an 84-unit senior apartment complex for lower income residents.

Reservations are recommended by tomorrow for those wishing to attend.

Activities scheduled at area senior center

The North Carroll Senior Center has announced upcoming activities.

The site council will meet at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

A class in researching family history will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays from this week to Oct. 13. The cost is $35.

Drop-in ballroom dancing is offered at 2:15 p.m. Fridays.

A program on Social Security and the new Medicare Prescription Plan will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 4.

Millers church offers activities for seniors

St. Paul's Independent Church of Millers offers senior-center activities from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the fellowship hall.

Senior citizens can enjoy fellowship, cards, games and live music. Refreshments will be available.

Monthly trips also are planned.

The North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 10 to discuss Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.

Rudisill finishes tour on Navy missile cruiser

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey F. Rudisill has completed Maritime Security Operations while assigned to the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy, based in Norfolk, Va.

Rudisill is part of the USS Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group in support of the global war on terrorism and Operations Enduring/Iraqi Freedom.
