On Friday, September 16, 2005, JOHN ALBERT "Smitty" SMITH of Townsend, DE, died at Christiana Medical Center. He was 80. Mr. Smith was a line supervisor for General Motors in their Boxwood Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II on the U.S.S. Prentiss and the U.S.S. Oberon and participated in both the European and Pacific theaters. He founded the Dairy Goat Assn. of Delaware, and enjoyed hunting. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, John W. and Mary E. (Slaughter) Smith; preceded in death by first wife Mary Ellen Pritchett Smith. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, MARY ROSE WEBSTER O'BRIEN SMITH, daughter and son-in-law Carolyn Ann and Leonardo Milano of York, PA; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Sherry O'Brien of Morristown, TN; grandson Shawn O'Brien; sister Louise Seward of Felton, DE. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 10 A.M. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. Friends may call Tuesday night after 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, DE. Burial will be in the Del. Vet. Mem. Cem. Bear, DE.
