NFL This Week

September 18, 2005

Jaguars (1-0) at Colts (1-0)

Line: Colts by 9

Skinny: Jaguars split last year's series with Colts, winning by three in Indy. Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich threw for 300 yards or more each time but isn't mobile and will have trouble eluding Colts' pass rush.

Pick: Colts

Patriots (1-0) at Panthers (0-1)

Line: Patriots by 3

Skinny: Bill Belichick has had nine days to prepare for the Patriots' Super Bowl opponent of two seasons ago. Panthers, bruised and beaten by Saints last week, don't want to start 0-2 at home.

Pick: Panthers

Bills (1-0) at Buccaneers (1-0)

Line: Bucs by 2 1/2

Skinny: Buccaneers' graybeard defense got five turnovers out of Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper last week. This week it gets J.P. Losman in his second career start. Bills' defense will make it equally tough on QB Brian Griese. One TD should win it.

Pick: Buccaneers

Dolphins (1-0) at Jets (0-1)

Line: Jets by 6

Skinny: Dolphins aren't as good as they looked, and Jets aren't as bad as they played in Week 1. Still, the biggest variable is Jets QB Chad Pennington, who was dreadful last week vs. Kansas City.

Pick: Dolphins

Chargers (0-1) at Broncos (0-1)

Line: Broncos by 3

Skinny: Broncos' credibility is on line in a key divisional battle after their disastrous outing in Miami. QB Jake Plummer's credibility has fallen over the line, however.

Pick: Broncos

Chiefs (1-0) at Raiders (0-1)

Line: Chiefs by 1

Skinny: Kansas City's rebuilt defense gets an acid test against WR Randy Moss and RB LaMont Jordan. Raiders QB Kerry Collins can't play worse than he did in the opener.

Pick: Raiders

Falcons (1-0) at Seahawks (0-1)

Line: Seahawks by 1

Skinny: Falcons were in fiery mood vs. Eagles in opener. If they take the same attitude to Seattle, the not-so-feisty Seahawks will be plucked.

Pick: Falcons

Steelers (1-0) at Texans (0-1)

Line: Off the board

Skinny: Steelers are sticking to their script - they like to ram the ball at the opposing defense. Even RB Willie Parker looked like a Pro Bowl player last week.

Pick: Steelers

Vikings (0-1) at Bengals (1-0)

Line: Bengals by 3

Skinny: Great QB matchup - Culpepper vs. Carson Palmer - but Palmer has a better supporting cast. His defense is probably better, too.

Pick: Bengals

49ers (1-0) at Eagles (0-1)

Line: Eagles by 13

Skinny: Will WR Terrell Owens taunt the 49ers? Will he score if Donovan McNabb doesn't play QB for Eagles?

Pick: Eagles

Browns (0-1) at Packers (0-1)

Line: Packers by 6 1/2

Skinny: This might be Browns' best chance to win until November. QB Trent Dilfer played often - but never won - at Lambeau with Buccaneers.

Pick: Packers

Lions (1-0) at Bears (0-1)

Line: Lions by 1 1/2

Skinny: TE Marcus Pollard was a great offseason addition for Lions, and he could be the difference against Bears' tough defense.

Pick: Lions

Rams (0-1) at Cardinals (0-1)

Line: Cardinals by 1

Skinny: Cardinals' special teams won't give up two TD runbacks this week because Rams overlook special teams.

Pick: Cardinals
