`Paint Annapolis 2005'

You can usually find one or two artists painting the scenery in downtown Annapolis, but this weekend there will be a few more. About 40 artists will set up their easels and canvases throughout the city as part of Paint Annapolis 2005. A tent at the market square will hand out maps marking artist locations.

Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts recruited 25 of the artists to paint today, tomorrow and Saturday. Their finished products will hang in Maryland Hall's gallery at a reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and people's choice. The exhibition continues through Oct. 21.

Weekend at the Walters

The Walters Art Museum offers two events this weekend: a lecture on mummies and a book signing. Egyptologist and lecturer Christine Foessmeier explores mummies and their popularity. The seminar Saturday is titled "Mummy Mania." Edward Dolnick, author of The Rescue Artist: A True Story of Art, Thieves and the Hunt for a Missing Masterpiece, will discuss the book and sign copies Sunday. The book depicts the investigation of the 1994 theft of Edvard Munch's The Scream from Norway's National Gallery.

Foessmeier's "Mummy Mania" lecture starts at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for nonmembers. Dolnick's book-signing and discussion starts at 2 p.m. Sunday. Gallery celebrates

The Art Gallery of Fells Point turns 25 this weekend, and to celebrate, the gallery is having complimentary cake, refreshments and a sale. On Sunday, everything in the gallery will be offered at a 25 percent discount.
