Single-A Carolina League playoffs

Kinston 4, Frederick 3: The Keys outhit Kinston 11-6 but stranded 14 runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, in Game 4 of the best-of-five league championship series. Frederick will look to win its first Mills Cup since 1990 today. Keys right-hander Brian Finch, who won the first game of the series, will return to the mound. Left-hander Chuck Lofgren will make his first start for the Indians since being activated from Lake County on Sept. 9. Nolan Reimold and Mario Delgado had three hits each in the losing effort. James Johnson (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits over six innings. Chris Britton threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Single-A South Atlantic League playoffs

Hagerstown 5, Kannapolis 3: Starter Jose Sanchez (1-0), who had not won since July 9, allowed one earned run in six innings as the host Suns tied the best-of-five championship series at 1-1. In the eighth inning, Russ Triplett, who had struck out with the bases loaded earlier in the game, led off with a single. He scored on a single to left by Kyle Brown, giving Hagerstown a 5-3 lead and closer Marcelo Perez breathing room.
