Chris Eccleston

Mount Hebron, football

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back and defensive back performed well on both sides of the ball in a 40-14 victory over Dulaney.

Eccleston rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns and had an interception. The senior also caught a 24-yard scoring pass and returned a punt 42 yards to set up one of his rushing touchdowns.

Eccleston is coming off a year in which he intercepted three passes and scored 15 touchdowns on 821 rushing yards and 452 receiving yards. A student with a 3.86 grade point average and 1,690 SAT score, Eccleston is getting looks from college programs such as the University of Pennsylvania, Brown and William and Mary.

Diana Apel

Glenelg, soccer

The junior scored four goals last week, including the one that upset No. 1 John Carroll, 1-0, at the North Carroll Tournament on Saturday.

Apel scored in the 68th minute against John Carroll, finishing the rebound after a corner kick was headed off the crossbar. The left midfielder also scored once in the 5-0 win over Old Mill in the title match of the tournament. She scored both goals in a 2-0 win over South Carroll earlier in the week.

Four goals in the first week of the season boosted her career total to nine goals along with seven assists.

A natural left-footer in her third year on the varsity, Apel plays club soccer with the Thunder and also plays lacrosse and basketball at Glenelg.
