A great day out, except for the loss

From the sea-of-white brigade of midshipmen to the tailgaters grilling their hotdogs to the kids enjoying the game from the grassy slope beyond the end zone, football Saturdays at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis provide something for just about everyone.

The only thing missing last week was a victory by the home team. Navy lost to Stanford, 41-38, Saturday night, the second week in a row that the Mids have come up short against an opponent from a major conference. The loss, before 35,670 fans, ended Navy's eight-game home winning streak.

Navy's next home game isn't until Oct. 8, at 1:30 p.m. against the Air Force Academy.
