Police identify Columbia teenager who was shot in leg

September 14, 2005

Howard County police have released the name of a Columbia teenager who was shot in the leg during the weekend but did not call police to report the crime.

Police spotted Joshua Joyce, 17, leaving an apartment building at 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the 8800 block of Flowerstock Row in Long Reach after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle with its door open and window shattered. Earlier, police had responded to a nearby street for reports of gunfire. While asking the youth whether he had seen or heard anything, officers noticed a large amount of blood coming from his left leg, according to a police report.

Joyce, of Majors Lane in Columbia, told police that two men had approached him on the parking lot and one shot him. Both fled.

Police have no suspects or motive. Anyone with information is asked to contact Howard County police at 410-313-3200.
