Rangers update

Texas used a tiebreaking, three-run homer by All-Star first baseman Mark Teixeira in the fifth inning yesterday to beat the Oakland Athletics, 7-4, and stop a three-game losing streak. It was the Severna Park native's career-best 39th home run and it gave him a major-league-leading 125 RBIs, two more than Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. The Rangers lead the majors with 241 home runs, 117 of them from the infield of Teixeira, Alfonso Soriano, Michael Young and Hank Blalock. Young, an All-Star shortstop, may be the most unheralded member of that group, leading the AL with a .330 batting average and 196 hits. Still, pitching remains a problem for the Rangers, who entered yesterday with a 5.08 team ERA, third worst in the AL. The Orioles avoid Kenny Rogers (13-7), who got the win yesterday. The Orioles are 2-5 against the Rangers this season.
