Bicycle-repair effort to aid families abroad

The churches of Wilde Lake Interfaith Center will collect adult-size bicycles, which will be repaired and sent to needy families in Latin America or Africa.

Bicycles will be collected at the interfaith center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Dozens of bicycles distributed in the same remote village will help develop the economic life of the area.

A donation of $10 for shipping requested with each bicycle, and will be noted on the donor's tax receipt. The church will cover the remaining costs.

Scrabble: Slayton House Scrabble will continue this fall. Participants ages 18 and older will meet from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning Tuesday. 410-730-3987.

Performing arts: Judy Templeton and Margot Vincent will begin their "Musical Theatrix" classes for children Tuesday at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green. The performing arts classes combine drama, dance and music. Children in grades one through five will perform scenes and numbers from Broadway shows; the class meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Belly-dancing: Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green will hold belly-dance lessons with Salima Aza. There will be two sessions in the fall and winter. Each session costs $54. A $10 drop-in fee is available for advanced beginners only. The fall session will be held from Tuesday to Oct. 18; the winter session will be held from Oct. 25 to Dec. 6.
