Trinity holds Sunday school rally today

Trinity Lutheran Church in Smallwood will hold Rally Day for the new Sunday school year at 9 a.m. today with the theme "Can You Hear Me Now?"

Rally Day will feature skits, games and prizes for all ages, followed by treats in the social hall at 10 a.m. After worship at 10:30 a.m., a free hot-dog lunch will be served.

Study program offered: `Making Love Last'

Westminster United Methodist Church will hold a six-week study program, "Making Love Last a Lifetime," at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. during Sunday worship services starting today.

The "Biblical Perspectives on Love, Marriage and Sex" will focus on topics rarely discussed in church, such as what men and women want to know about each other after the honeymoon is over and God's plan for intimacy.

The program includes worship, sermons, drama and small group studies with videos, Bible study and discussion. Singles and married couples are welcome.

The church is at East Main and Center streets.

Girl Scout troops set back-to-school dance

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 502 and Senior Troop 112 are sponsoring a fifth-grade back-to-school dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Westminster United Methodist Church hall.

Admission is $5, plus a canned or dry food item. Hot dogs (75 cents), soda (50 cents) and candy will be sold. Door prizes will be given away.

Participants must be picked up at the door by a parent.

Westminster library lists activities

Westminster branch library, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

Junior Book Club for ages 7 to 10 years at 4 p.m. Wednesday to discuss Davey's Blue-Eyed Frog by Patricia Harrison Easton.

"Try Yoga - Learn to Relax Using Breathing and Stretching Techniques" for teens and adults at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Jennifer Lerche will lead this class for beginners. Registration is required.

"Tiempo de Cuentos" at 7 p.m. Thursday for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult). This story time in Spanish features stories, songs and activities.

"The Life of Civil War Soldiers and the Animals that Lived with Them" at 1 p.m. Saturday for ages 7 to adult. Snyder Foundation for Animals' Civil War re-enactor Richard Anderson will focus on the lives of soldiers during the Civil War, including the hardships they faced and the animals that supported their efforts. Registration is required.

Churches plan 9/11 services of remembrance

Shiloh United Methodist Church in Hampstead and Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Upperco will hold 9/11 Remembrance services today.

Emergency-services and military personnel (past and present) will be honored as those who died and those who responded to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, are remembered.

Those who are serving or have served in the military or as emergency services personnel are invited to come in uniform.

The service at Shiloh will be at 9:30 a.m. at 3100 Shiloh Road.

The service at Mount Zion will be at 11 a.m. at 3800 Black Rock Road.

Grace church to conduct Sunday school rally day

Grace United Methodist Church will hold Rally Day for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. today.

The theme will be "The Discipleship Adventure: Opening to God."

Worship will begin with a balloon celebration procession and include music, a Bible-themed skit, a children's message and recognition of grandparents.

The annual Charge Conference will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will include worship, Holy Communion, election of officers, a review of the past year and a look ahead to 2006.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m., and worship is at 10:30 a.m.

Manchester, fire company to sponsor free concert

Manchester and the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor a free concert in the park at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the carnival grounds on York Street.

Free Wheelin' will perform.

Guests can take blankets or chairs.

Library programs include book talk, computer basics

North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

The North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. tomorrow to discuss The View From Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg.

"American Girls Night - Game Night" for ages 7 to 10 at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Stories, theater presentations and a craft will be presented by the North Carroll High School Honor Society. Children can take their dolls or dress up if they wish. Registration is required.

"Computer Basics" for adults at 2 p.m. Sept. 19. Registration is limited to three people to learn very basic computer skills.
