`Children's Day'

On Sunday, Ladew Topiary Gardens is all about kids. The 22-acre garden in Monkton is presenting its Children's Day. Kids can enjoy interactive musical performances, sing-alongs, crafts, rock-painting, face-painting, balloon sculptures and treats, including cotton candy. Kids can also take a walk through the flower and topiary gardens to spot the animal-shaped shrub sculptures.

Children's Day is noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ladew Topiary Gardens, 3535 Jarrettsville Pike, Monkton. Children's Day activities are included in admission, which ranges from $2 to $13. Call 410-557-9466.

`Red Riding Hood & the Forest of Secrets'

Catch an original production of the musical Red Riding Hood & the Forest of Secrets at the Baltimore Children's Theatre from Saturday through Oct. 22. Local playwright Mark Andrew Beachy penned music and lyrics. The production tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood and her adventures through a Forest of Secrets, as she travels to visit her grandmother. Sharing the title role are Kelly Vaughn and Samantha Mauceri. The Wolf will be played by Stefan Lasker. The Grandmother will be Jessica Fryatt. Lumia will be played by Jenny Judd. And the role of Hopolato will be filled by Joseph Dantoni.

The musical will be performed at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22, and at 2 p.m. Sept. 18, Oct. 2 and 16, at the Baltimore Children's Theatre, 410 Jasper St. Tickets are $10. Call 443-864-1470 or visit www.balt

Anne Arundel County Fair

So you miss the Maryland State Fair, do you? Well, head to the Anne Arundel County Fair for more carnival rides and games, livestock, agricultural and 4-H exhibits, tractor and horse pulls, concerts, a petting zoo, kids' activities and more at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville from Wednesday through Sept. 18. This is the 53rd year for the fair, which celebrates Anne Arundel County's farming past, present and future.

The fair runs 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Wednesday and Sept. 16, noon-11 p.m. Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sept. 17 and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, 1450 Generals Highway, Crownsville. Call 410-923-3400 for fees or visit for more information.
