Performing arts classes for pupils to begin Sept. 13

Judy Templeton and Margot Vincent will begin their "Musical Theatrix" classes, for children from kindergarten to eighth grade, Sept. 13. The performing arts classes combine drama, dance and music.

Children in grades one through five will perform scenes and musical numbers from Broadway shows; the class meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Children in grades six through eight will perform Godspell. The class meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Classes will be held at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green.

A 12-week series of "Acting for Television" classes for children and youth in grades one through 12 will be held at Drama Learning Center, starting Sept. 12.

Four-week classes offered for beginning knitters

A four-week Beginners' Knitting and Crocheting Class will be offered Thursday nights at Kahler Hall, beginning Sept. 15.

The class, which runs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., costs $55; $60 for nonlien payers. Participants must supply their own materials.

Completes exercise: Navy Seaman Timothy R. Patrick, a 2003 graduate of Atholton High School, completed an anti-submarine warfare exercise off the coast of Hawaii while assigned to the guided-missile cruiser, USS Chosin, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He is the son of Thomas R. Patrick and Mary J. Patrick of Columbia.

Around Town

Fencing classes: Slayton House will offer fencing classes for children ages 7 and older and adults on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, starting Tuesday. For children ages 7 through 12, the cost for the fall session -- nine classes -- is $60. The cost for all other levels is $65 a session -- 10 classes. Equipment will be provided, but each student must purchase personal protection, which costs $10 for men, and $18 for women. Registration is required. 410- 730-3987.

Scrabble: Slayton House Scrabble will continue this fall. Participants ages 18 and older will meet from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning Sept. 13. 410-730-3987.

Belly-dancing: Slayton House on the Wilde Lake Village Green will hold belly-dance lessons with Salima Aza. There will be two sessions in the fall and winter. Each session costs $54. A $10 drop-in fee is available for advanced beginners only. The fall session will be held from Sept. 13 to Oct. 18; the winter session will be held from Oct. 25 to Dec. 6. 410-730-3987.
