ISSUE: The surging price of gas has begun to cause many people to make adjustments in how they go about their daily lives, from cutting back on driving, to altering - or canceling - travel plans, to avoiding activities that require gas (boating, motorcycling).

While pumping gas last week, Bel Air resident Louise Pollard said she had decided to forego a traditional end-of-the-summer trip to the Ocean City condo she owns with family members.

"I get a chance to go up pretty regularly, but no way am I going long distances right now," she said Thursday after filling half her tank - for $3.30 a gallon - at a Citgo in Bel Air. "It's too far for the gas."
