Carroll W. Kelley, 84, printer for Coast Guard

Carroll W. Kelley, a retired Coast Guard printer and former Sykesville resident, died of liver cancer Monday at a hospital in Newport Richey, Fla. He was 84.

Mr. Kelley was born and raised in Jonesport, Maine, and had lived in Sykesville for 37 years. He had recently moved to Newport Richey.

He served in the Navy during World War II and worked as a printer at the Coast Guard's Curtis Bay yard for more than 40 years before retiring in 1985.

Mr. Kelley was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.

His wife of 55 years, the former Esther Mitchison, died in 1997.

He was a member of Tridelphia Seventh Day Adventist Church in Clarksville.

Plans for a memorial service to be held at his church were incomplete yesterday.

Surviving are two brothers, Newman Kelley of Jonesport and Norman Kelley of Boston; and a sister, Eila Palmer of Newport Richey.
