On August 31, 2005, CHARLES AMBROSE GETTIER, SR., beloved husband of Josephine V. Gettier (nee Wegher), devoted father of Charles A. Gettier, Jr., Darel J. Gettier, Michele M. Anderson, Robin C. Gettier, Renee E. Street, Chad S. Gettier, Janine C. Young and Melanie V. Chalkley, dear brother of Dorothy Mc Guire, loving grandfather of 16. Also survived by cousins. Friends may call at the family-owned EVANS FUNERAL CHAPEL-BEL AIR (Rt 23 & 24, Forest Hill, MD) from 1 to 2 P.M. on Saturday. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 2 P.M. BROWN HIGH, 81, died on Monday, August 29, 2005. A native of Cherryville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. W. T. Brown and Fannie Jane Casey Brown. She was the soul survivor of eleven brothers and sisters. Mrs. High was married to the late Rev. Samuel A. High, who had worked for the Baptist Convention of Maryland and had served as Pastor of Loch Raven Baptist Church in Baltimore. They also had served together at churches in North Carolina and Texas. Mrs. High was an Elementary School Teacher with Baltimore County Schools and retired in 1989. She wrote curriculum and articles for early education literature. She received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Towson University. She also graduated from Gardner-Webb College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Baltimore and she received great satisfaction from helping others and teaching children. Mrs. High taught a children's Sunday School class for 50 years. Survivors include her two daughters, Samala Hocutt and her husband Broadus of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Mary J. High of Boiling Springs, NC and a son, Samuel A. High, Jr. and his wife Sherine of Forest Hill, MD. She adored her four grandsons, Heath and Eric High of Forest Hill, MD and Adam and Ray Hocutt of Charlotte, NC. She was very proud that all four grandchildren are in college. Friends may call at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Road (Beltway exit 26-A) on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 3, at Valley Baptist Church, 1401 York Road, Towson, MD at 10 A.M. Interment to follow at Saters Baptist Church Cemetery. Service will be conducted by Rev. Jerry Wade. The family would like to thank the staff of Edenwald retirement Community for their compassion and love. She felt like Edenwald was her home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sam and Rachel High Scholarship Fund at the Alma Mater, Gardner-Webb University.
