Scandinavian Fest

Celebrate the traditions of the Nordic regions Sunday. No, not at the cafe in IKEA. Rather, venture to the Scandinavian Fest at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, N.J., and celebrate the food, crafts, art and culture of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Estonia.

Enjoy a smorgasbord of fun, including music, dance, food, arts, crafts, games and more. Visitors can hear live music from the 100-voice student choirs Florakoren and Brahe Djaknar from Finland, as well as the a cappella singers Orontrost from Sweden.

Artisans will demonstrate wood-carving, hand-weaving, Danish paper-cutting, Swedish embroidery and needle-felting. There will be presentations on genealogy, re-enactors and encampments, children's activities and a celebration of the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen's birthday. And, of course, an array of Nordic foods will be available.

The Scandinavian Fest runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison, N.J. Rain or shine. $15; $12 seniors; free for ages under 12 and for anyone dressed in authentic Nordic folk attire. Call 610-868-7525 or visit
