Baltimore County police today released the identity of a 49-year-old Pikesville man who died in a two-alarm fire last week at his second-floor apartment.

Firefighters found the body of Jeffrey Gregg Mashkes of the 100 block of Clarendon Ave. on the kitchen floor Thursday night. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Fire officials have said the blaze apparently began in the kitchen of the two-story, frame house. The fire caused extensive damage to the second floor and went through the roof. An unoccupied first-floor apartment sustained heavy water damage.
