August 29, 2005|BY A SUN SAFF WRITER

A 24-year-old Howard County man was killed yesterday evening when the car he was driving slammed into a concrete retaining wall off Route 100 near Columbia, county police said.

Karlos Lydell Williams of the 5700 block of Cedar Lane in Columbia was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra east on Route 100 at a high speed about 5:30 p.m. when he entered the ramp leading to Executive Park Drive, skidded through a stop sign at its end and hit the wall, police said.

Williams, the lone occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said excessive speed and the use of alcohol contributed to the crash.
