Police search Granite area for fugitive

August 29, 2005

A manhunt continued yesterday for Michael K. Voland Sr., 45, who has been on the run since Thursday when Pennsylvania police officers attempted to confiscate weapons from his home in Hanover, Pa., after his wife filed a domestic complaint.

Last night, police halted their search of a two-square-mile area near Granite in western Baltimore County, where Voland knew some residents.

"We believe he is armed with a high-powered rifle," said Greg Shipley, a Maryland State Police spokesman. A .22-caliber handgun that police believe belonged to Voland was found near where his pickup broke down Thursday in the Carroll County community of Berrett, Shipley said.

Metro Crime Stoppers (866-7LOCKUP) is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to Voland's arrest.
