August 29, 2005

Kenneth James Buchheister, a maintenance mechanic, drowned Aug. 21 while boating in the Susquehanna Flats of the Chesapeake Bay. The Perryville resident was 34.

Born in Westminster, he was a 1990 graduate of North Carroll High School. In 1993, he married Tammy Cox. The couple moved to Perryville in 1997.

Mr. Buchheister had been working as a maintenance mechanic at FP International for two years. Before that, he had worked at a spring manufacturer, according to his father, John Paul Buchheister Jr. of Hampstead.

Mr. Buchheister enjoyed the music of Jimmy Buffett and was an avid "Parrothead," as fans of Mr. Buffett are called. He also enjoyed boating and the beach. His father said his son first sailed a boat by himself when he was 8 years old.

"He was an excellent water-skier when he was younger," his father said. "He loved boats."

A service was held yesterday.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Cameron Buchheister and T.J. Buchheister, and a daughter, Maysie Buchheister, all of Perryville; his mother, Sue Humbert Buchheister of Hampstead; a sister, April Williams of Homosassa, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Helen Humbert of Westminster; and his paternal grandparents, John P. and Mary Buchheister of Parkville.
