City man, 29, fatally shot during argument at a party

A 29-year-old city man was fatally shot early yesterday when a fight at an East Baltimore party ended with gunfire, police said.

Donta Chandler, most recently of the 200 block of N. Curley St., was shot several times. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

About 2:30 a.m., officers investigating reports of gunfire found Chandler in the 1400 block of Mullikin Court. Chandler was attending a house party on the block when an argument escalated and someone pulled out a gun, police said.

Chandler was pronounced dead at 4:47 a.m. No one else was injured, police said.

In an unrelated slaying, police reported yesterday that the death of a resident of an apartment building for the disabled on Greenspring Avenue a week ago was the result of a beating.

About noon Aug. 21, police responding to a noise complaint on the fourth floor of the Louis W. Foxwell Memorial Apartments in the 3700 block of Greenspring Ave. found Carlton Crawford, 82, dead on his bedroom floor. He had been beaten with an unknown object.

Crawford, who was deaf, had lived in the building since 1983.
