DeLay to appear at GOP dinner event

The Carroll County Republican Central Committee plans an evening meeting with the House majority leader, Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas, Sept. 8 at Martin's Westminster.

Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Times may change to accommodate DeLay's schedule.

Single tickets are $85, a table of 10 is $800, a dinner ticket with a photo is $150 for a single or couple. Purchasers of a table will get a photo.

Democratic club sponsors all-you-can-eat crab feast

The Carroll County Democratic Club will hold its annual all-you-can-eat crab feast from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Westminster American Legion, 2 Sycamore St., Westminster.

The menu will include crabs, fried chicken, barbecue rib bites, vegetable crab soup, corn on the cob, fruit salad, soft drinks, beer and dessert.

Cost is $45 for age 12 and older, and $10 for children younger than 11. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to charities providing services to the families of military members.

Tickets are available in advance only. Checks should be made payable to the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee or CCDCC and sent to Martin Radinsky, Treasurer, Carroll County Democratic Central Committee, 5602 Gera Way, Eldersburg 21784.

Historical society offers rail trip to Frostburg

The Historical Society of Carroll County will sponsor a bus trip to "Ride the Rails to Western Maryland" Oct. 14 in Cumberland.

The group will travel to Cumberland and explore the terminus of the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Travelers will ride the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad 32 miles to Frostburg and back.

Riders will have lunch in a vintage dining car. There will be time to explore downtown Frostburg before returning to Cumberland.

In Cumberland, the group will explore the historic Emmanuel Episcopal Church with original Tiffany stained glass windows.

The bus will leave from Church of the Ascension on Court Street in Westminster at 8 a.m. and return about 6 p.m. The cost of the trip is $85 for society members, and $100 for nonmembers.

Reservations are required by Sept. 9.

Carroll leaders seek to fill two vacancies on panel

The Carroll County commissioners are seeking additional resumes and letters of interest for Taneytown and Union Bridge area vacancies to the Commission on Aging.

The commission's responsibilities include:

Reviewing, evaluating and commenting on plan objectives.

Serving as a steering committee to prioritize programs to be funded.

Bringing senior issues and needs to the bureau.

Developing positions on legislation.

Advising the commissioners on bureau and senior programs and fiscal matters.
