COLLEGE PARK - An injury to kicker Obi Egekeze gave walk-on Dan Ennis a chance to impress Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen in yesterday's final scrimmage before the season opener, and Ennis took advantage of it.

He made three of four field-goal attempts, including 47- and 42-yarders, and all three of his extra-point attempts.

Friedgen said Egekeze hurt his right thigh making a tackle during a kickoff, but declined to discuss the seriousness of the injury. Egekeze missed his only field-goal attempt, a 44-yarder.

Naming a kicker has been one of Friedgen's toughest decisions this summer.

"Dan jumped out at me when he kicked it from 47 yards," Friedgen said. "I didn't think he had that kind of range."
