Terps to host BC in ACC opener

Game vs. new members of conference one of 14 on national television

The Maryland men's basketball team will face 11 opponents that reached the NCAA tournament last year and will open its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule by hosting the newest member of the league, Boston College, on national television Dec. 11, the university announced yesterday.

The Boston College game is one of Maryland's 14 nationally televised games.

The Terps' season begins Nov. 18 at Comcast Center against Northeast Conference champion Fairleigh Dickinson. The matchup will be the first of 16 regular-season home games.

Maryland's games will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, CBS or Fox Sports Net, including a Saturday afternoon non-conference game at Temple on ESPN2 and a home matchup with Duke at 1 p.m. Feb. 11 on CBS. The Terps' 9 p.m. matchup at Duke on Jan. 11 will be on ESPN.

Highlights of the schedule include a three-game trip to the Maui Invitational, as Maryland is in a field comprised of Kansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Michigan State, Gonzaga and Arkansas. The Terps face Gonzaga in the first round Nov. 21.

ACC teams will have a record 265 TV appearances during the season, including a rematch of last year's national championship game between North Carolina and Illinois on Nov. 29.

The Tar Heels also travel to Kentucky and host Arizona. Other key nonconference matchups are: Duke against Texas and Indiana; Wake Forest against Wisconsin; North Carolina State against Notre Dame and Alabama; and Miami facing Final Four participant Louisville.
