Boot camp for the littlest midshipmen

Summer

In Anne Arundel County

August 24, 2005

For several hours Saturday morning, about 80 youngsters ranging from 6 to 12 years old got a chance to experience a little of what it's like to be a plebe at the Naval Academy. Those attending the Navy Way Boot Camp at Dahlgren Hall were issued the familiar Dixie cup hats, learned Navy terms, chants and cheers, marched, had lunch in a simulated mess - and followed orders. Two sessions of the camp were held at the academy this summer. At the end of the session, boot campers were issued diplomas and got a chance to throw their hats in the air, just like real academy graduates.
