Federal and local authorities raided a Severna Park home yesterday and arrested a man on charges of running a suspected methamphetamine laboratory.
Brian Kauffmann, 33, of the 300 block of Pertch Road appeared in U.S. District Court in Baltimore yesterday, hours after his 6 a.m. arrest.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Anne Arundel County Police Department participated in the raid of Kauffmann's home. They accused him of manufacturing the highly addictive synthetic drug - commonly known as crystal meth - in his garage. DEA officials said they recovered about an ounce of meth, and described the size of the operation as "mom and pop."
According to the criminal complaint filed in court yesterday, Kauffmann is charged with making several sales of meth to a confidential DEA informant.
If convicted, Kauffmann could face a maximum sentence of life in prison, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a $4 million fine.
