Foundation gives $2,500 grant to Success in Style

Success in Style has been awarded a $2,500 grant by the Columbia Foundation, Howard County's community foundation.

The grant will help fund Project Outreach, a campaign to aggressively promote the nonprofit organization's mission to disadvantaged women in the community.

Founded in 2002, Success in Style's mission is to promote dignity and self-sufficiency by providing free business attire and practical fashion advice.

Success in Style expects to provide the service to more than 300 women this year.

Open house aimed at veterans seeking careers

The Columbia Workforce Center, a division of Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the Howard County Employment and Training Office will sponsor an open house for veterans from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Columbia Workforce Center, 7060 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

The theme is "Accessing the Veteran Affairs System."

Loss support group to meet Tuesday

Jewish Family Services in Howard County is offering a loss support group for adults from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Sept. 27 at federation offices, 8950 Route 108, Suite 115, Ellicott City.

Participants will have an opportunity to talk with specialists about grief. The group, which is open to people of all faiths, offers support with sensitivity to Jewish values.

The cost is $36 for six 1 1/2 -hour sessions. Registration is required.

Directory of services to be printed, distributed

The Association of Community Services is expanding distribution of Looking for Answers?, a directory of services listing resources for health, education, employment, child care, care of the elderly and other needs.

A new edition of the directory will be printed next month and will be distributed to homeowners, schools, senior centers and health organizations, as well as to members of the association and at community events.

The association is seeking advertisers who can benefit from exposure in the directory and booth space or underwriting opportunities at major ACS events.

Camera-ready art is due by Thursday.
