Victorian tea to be served at Patapsco Female Institute

Friends of the Patapsco Female Institute Inc. will present a Victorian Tea and 19th Century Fashion Show, featuring clothing from the 1800s, at 3 p.m. Sept. 11.

The event, which features afternoon tea served in the early Victorian parlors of the park's Mount Ida Visitor Center, will raise money for programs at the park. Hosts in period dress will serve teas, sweets and savories.

The halls and parlors of the center display furnishings, art and garments appropriate to the once-famous girls' school, which opened in 1837.

The cost is $25. Reservations are required. The Mount Ida Visitor Center is at 3691 Sarah's Lane, Ellicott City.

Miller library offers book club for girls

The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will sponsor its Chick-Lit Book Club, for girls ages 12 and older, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Check with the branch for the current title to be discussed. Books are available at the branch. Registration is not necessary.

Senior center to offer session on legal documents

Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, will sponsor a session with attorney Paul Nathan as part of the 60 Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Services offered will include creating powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to Howard County residents ages 60 and older. An appointment is required. The cost for document preparation is based on a sliding scale.

The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, will present "Kindergarten, Here we Come!" at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, and 2 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The 30-minute sessions will include stories and activities to mark the first day of school for children ages 4 and 5. 410-313-1955.

New teen 'zine:

The Miller branch library offers an English Conversation Club from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Mondays. The club is intended for adults and teen-agers who speak English as a second or third language and who want to practice in a group setting. Registration is requested. 410-313-1950.
