MICA student show

They've just completed their first year at college, and they already have an art show. The best and brightest of the students who entered Maryland Institute College of Art in fall 2004 will have their works displayed starting tomorrow and running through Sept. 18. The students' work is in a variety of media from traditional painting to modern graphic design, animation and video.

The Foundation Exhibit is being shown in two galleries: the Meyerhoff Gallery in the Fox Building at 1303 W. Mount Royal Ave., and the Pinkard Gallery in the Bunting Center at 1401 W. Mount Royal Ave. The galleries will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, noon-5 p.m. Free. Call 410-225-2300.

Photo exhibit

Clothing designer Marie Payzant is showing a different side of her art with a show of her photography. Payzant was a photojournalism student at Michigan State University who documented her travels from India to Nepal. She is taking time out to display her photo work because she fears that one day her film will be too outdated to develop because of advances in technology.

Marie Payzant's work will be on display from Wednesday through Oct. 23 at A People United, 516 N. Charles St. Free. Call 410-727-4471, ext. 109.

Surrealism is some of the most intricate and talked about art. The pieces depict the artist's dreams or imagination. Salvador Dali -- best known for his Persistence of Vision, where melting clocks are set in a desert background -- is the leader of this unique style. His work and others' will be on display at Gallery G.

Gallery G's fine art show runs through Sept. 30. The gallery is at 3500 Clipper Mill Road, Suite 102. All pieces are available for purchase. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. Call 410-664-5700.
