Restaurants close doors

HOT STUFF

August may be the time for folks to go away. This year, it seems it's also the time for some local restaurants to disappear.

The popular Owings Mills bistro Due closed recently. However, its food can still be found in its sister restaurant, Linwood's, right next door. One of Linwood's managers, Rachel Zundell, says the Due menu was rolled into that of Linwood's. The Due space is being turned into a catering venue. Linwood's Restaurant, 410-356-3030, is at 25 Crossroads Drive. Lunch is served 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner hours are 5:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, you may notice that the windows of Viccino's Bistro, at 1317 N. Charles St., are now covered with brown paper. It just closed last week. Some changes are in store. Stay tuned.

Finally, that Federal Hill stalwart, Bandaloops, has also vanished. But, as of this week, a new restaurant takes its place. The grand opening of Drifters Raw Bar & Grill is this weekend.

New owner Nick Marshall says he and partner Danny Pirog have spent weeks doing almost all the renovations themselves, "livening it up" with a nautical theme. They've added a second bar downstairs, as well as a raw bar. There are two bars upstairs. And plasma TVs are scattered around the place.

The menu is seafood-based American standards. In addition to the raw bar offerings, you've got your usual appetizers, like chicken tenders ($6.95), Buffalo wings ($7.95) and crab dip ($8.95). There are a handful of salads -- Greek, Caesar, chef and house ($2.95-$8.25) -- and both hot and cold sandwiches including burgers ($6.95-$7.95), crab cake sandwiches ($11.95) and turkey club ($6.95). Entrees include crab imperial ($19.95), chicken Marsala ($15.95) and filet mignon and crab cake ($23.95).

Drifters Bar & Grill, 410-727-1355, is at 1024 S. Charles St. Its hours are 11:30 a.m.-2 a.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, Drifters will be open 1 p.m.-2 a.m., except days when the Ravens are playing here, when the restaurant will open at least two hours before the game.
