Hot August Blues

A good blues lineup can cool off the hottest summer day (iced-down beer helps too). Saturday's Hot August Blues Festival has both, and then some. New Orleans native Walter "Wolfman" Washington and the Roadmasters, Grammy-nominated singer Shemekia Copeland and zydeco act Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band headline the 10-hour festival in Cockeysville. Local phat blues group Kelly Bell Band also performs. Kids can receive an impromptu harmonica or percussion lesson (free harmonicas and egg-shakers provided) at the Kids Korner tent. Barbecue, seafood and vegetarian fare will also be available.

The Hot August Blues Festival runs noon-10 p.m. Saturday at Oregon Ridge Park, 13401 Beaver Dam Road in Cockeysville. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the gate and free for those younger than 12. Parking is free. Call 877-321-3378 or visit www. hotaugustblues.com.
