Two men are fatally shot in separate incidents

A 24-year-old man was found fatally shot early yesterday on a street in South Baltimore's Lakeland neighborhood, and in another incident an unidentified man died after being shot on the city's west side last night, police reported.

Officers responding to a call at 12:27 a.m. reporting gunshots found Jerome Hooks lying in the 2600 block of Wegworth Lane, police said. The victim, who lived in the 2700 block of Wegworth, had been shot in the head.

About 7:40 p.m., police received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the 700 block of N. Grantley St., in Edmondson Village, where responding officers found a man bleeding from at least one wound to the chest, said homicide Detective Donny Bradshaw.

The victim, described as in his early 20s, died about half an hour later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Bradshaw said.
