Centennial High club holding fundraiser

August 14, 2005

Centennial High School's HELP (Hopes to Educate Local People) To Fight Cancer Club will hold a yard sale and food sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at a club member's home, 9318 Frederick Road, Ellicott City.

The group is raising money to continue its activities, which include an art show, "Paint the Way," which has benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

HELP, which was founded by a former student in 2003, also has collected toys and other items for children at the hospital. Club members have volunteered with the Red Devils, a group that provides support services to cancer patients, and at Hopkins Hospital. Several club members have shadowed doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital, said Ankita Saxena, 16, this year's club president.

The club has 50 to 60 members, "and more coming in next year," she said.
